Creative Workshops for Schools

One of my favourite parts of being a visiting artist is bringing new and exciting crafts into the classroom, the kinds of creative activities that often get missed out in the usual curriculum. My creative workshops for schools give children the chance to explore different materials, learn new techniques, and discover the joy of making something truly unique.
Wet Felting
One of the most popular workshops I teach is wet felting, a lovely, hands-on way to create pictures using wool. It’s colourful, a little bit messy and full of magic. The children love the process of adding soap and water, watching the soft wool gradually transform into felt. There’s something wonderful about that moment when they realise they’ve actually made a piece of fabric with their own hands!
Paper Making
Another favourite is paper making. In this workshop, children turn pulp into paper, then decorate it with pictures, colours, and patterns. It’s a fantastic activity for special occasions like Mother’s Day, Christmas or Remembrance Sunday, when their handmade paper can be turned into cards, gifts or keepsakes.
Willow Weaving
And then there’s willow weaving, a traditional craft that works beautifully all year round. In the summer, we often take this workshop outdoors, where children can enjoy the fresh air while weaving and shaping willow into beautiful sculptures. The finished pieces can last for years, a wonderful reminder of their teamwork and creativity.
Each of these workshops offers something different, but they all have one thing in common: they spark imagination, creativity, and pride in what children can achieve with their own hands. Because when children make something from scratch — whether it’s felt, paper, or willow — they’re not just learning a craft. They’re learning patience, problem-solving, and the joy of creating something real.
