Art Workshops for Primary Schools

Creative experiences play an important role in primary education. While classroom lessons cover many skills, art workshops for primary schools can introduce pupils to materials, techniques and ideas they may not normally experience.

A visiting artist workshop brings a new energy into the school day. Children often respond differently when they are given the opportunity to learn directly from someone who works creatively every day.

Workshops can also reach large numbers of pupils. For example, a full day of paper making workshops can include up to seven classes, meaning around 200 children can take part. Felt making techniques can be mastered in 90 minutes, enabling 90 children to take part in one day. Willow weaving can be planned as taster sessions, working with each class for one hour, allowing 150 children to experience a new craft together.

And if you want to involve the whole school, you can start with a introductory assembly, so everyone can meet the visiting artist.

Activities like these allow children to experiment, learn through making, and develop confidence in their own creativity.
